I can hardly believe that we are halfway through the Summer in July! Vacation ideas have only been spoken about, without a single hotel booked … and as you can tell, I’m more of a spontaneous planner. In the meanwhile, I’ll enjoy the 4th with my family over flavorful BBQ and wine, with a colorful finale of sparkling fireworks. Does anyone have any exciting plans for the 4th?!
Gardening News: For the past couple of months, I’ve been making plans to liven up the front of our home, which has been in dyer need of a refresh. A good part of the home is heavily shaded with oak trees and I can still see the beginnings of an English Garden that never fully came to be. After much research and experimenting with some of my new flowering plants, such as bougainvilleas, hydrangeas, and lavender, gardening has become a new found hobby of mine. It’s surprising how calming it’s been to my soul every morning, which is something I can much appreciate after the non-stop year I’ve had so far. At this point, I don’t think I can go a day without attending to my growing garden.
Romantizing with Florals: I’ve been bringing the outdoors in with more flower arranging since the Mother’s Day holiday. Recently, I opened Emmahlyn Fleur, the floral component of my business and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve always thought about the bigger picture of how I wanted to inspire and help people, which is why I chose to go with a more universal blog name, Emmahlyn Living. I love romanticizing a home (indoors and out), with a collection of fresh flowers and plants. Everything is suddenly welcoming & bright, and especially beautiful as the flowers themselves. So, along with posts on interiors and fashion & beauty, you might notice more floral pics that hopefully bring a smile to your face and inspire your day.
A New Daily Foundation: Thus far, Summer has brought on a tropical feel to Houston, making it incredibly humid and difficult for make-up to stay on. Thankfully, I found a foundation that’s been doing wonders for my skin and it’s the BarePro Foundation by Bare Minerals. After a few tries to get the right application, I’ve found you can get the best results using their Luxe Performance Brush or the dense Expert Face Brush from Real Techniques. With one pump, the finish provides a natural medium coverage, which is buildable for where you need it. I do pair it with my favorite radiance primer that adds a subtle glow throughout the day. This foundation has really improved the overall appearance of my skin, without making it look heavy. Plus, it’s long wearing, which has been so perfect for our hot and humid days. Hint: Apply this foundation in a sweeping motion all over the face, starting from the center and moving outwards. It may appear light at first, but the foundation does oxidize by one shade. I found it adjusts to your complexion once it settles into your skin and I would recommend purchasing your true color. I wear the color Warm Natural 12, medium with yellow undertones.
Casual in Sandals: I’ve been loving these sandals lately, which has been so versatile with all my flowy skirts and casual tees. They initially weren’t a sandal I would gravitate towards, but once I tried them on, they ended up being a really flattering sandal. And the white sole detail adds a little something special. So, if you’re looking for an effortless go-to shoe for traveling, casual days, and while you’re sight seeing during your travels, this is one to try!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone and chat with you again soon!
