Autumn is finally here, officially two months since the season first began. Autumn shows us that it’s a time for slowing down the pace to enjoy the beautiful weather, the rich colors of our surroundings, and embracing the time spent doing the things we love in this period of shorter days. With the crisp cool mornings, I’m eagerly excited to create a cozy haven before Winter sets in.
At the beginning of October, I began putting away all the bright white and coastal inspired accessories, and filled these spaces with a neutral color palette with cozy textures and earthy vibes. I like to think that with these subtle changes, it was just enough to bring the essence of Autumn into the home.
So, what ways can we incorporate the feeling of Fall into our haven in a beautiful way, without filling it with loads of faux pumpkins, burlap, and the traditional Thanksgiving colors? Keep reading below to see my 5 tips for incorporating Autumn into your home …

One: Start with a Warm Neutral Color Palette
To keep your decor looking beautiful and elegant, I like to begin with a selection of neutrals as the foundation before anything else. This keeps your home from looking overdone, while turning the focus onto the special elements that you add into your home. For Fall, think soft and subdued, rather than light and bright. Soft whites, cream, beige, and wood tones are all cozy shades for the season. From there, you can add color from inspiration all around you.
Two: Add Accent Colors that Remind you of Autumn
I encourage you to step outside to admire the flowers and greenery, as well as the colors that surround you. Take a stroll to the park, visit your favorite area of town to gather inspiration and see what colors you really love. Is it the forest green tones in the trees, the mix of maroon and gold in the leaves or is it the way the sky looks the moment the sun starts to go down? Then take 2-3 of these colors and incorporate them around the house. A vase, a stack of books (new and old), pillows and throws are all easy ways to bring the look of Autumn indoors.
Below, a selection of neutral furniture and a few large accessories serves as the base for this living room, with a pop of richness in the maroon and burgundy shades seen in a throw pillow, area rug, and artwork.
Three: Take it One Step Further with a Touch of Black, Antique Brass or Both
In Autumn, the focus is creating a home that’s comforting and cozy, a place to retreat as we prepare for Winter. Deep colors do a great job for setting the mood and that’s why I like to swap out some of my white framed art with sleek black and antique brass frames. I also have the most fun shopping local antique shops and thrift stores for brass frames and other decorative trinkets.
Autumn
noun
The season of the year between summer and winter, when fruits and crops become ready to eat and are picked, and leaves fall.

Four: Infuse both Warm Textures & Patterns
One of my favorite parts about styling is adding a curated selection of beautiful accessories to bring your home to life. That can be in the form of throw pillows, decorative objects, and bits & bobs that help create the mood you’re wishing to create. For visual interest and dimension, choose items that have unique textures and patterns, while making sure to keep the overall look balanced. The perfect example is using throw pillows for your sofa, in this sequence:
- One Solid Colored Pillow in a Cozy Fabric (ex. Velvet)
- One Small Floral Print Pillow
- One Textured Cable Knit Pillow
- One Large Striped Pillow
Another great way to add warmth, is incorporating baskets, a wooden stool, and/or a leather pouf next to your sofa, in a corner of the room or by the entryway. Baskets are found nearly everywhere and anywhere, at many affordable price points. Plus, they’re an accessory that can be carried through all seasons.
See other decor picks at the end of this post below: books, blankets, accent chairs, and more, that are all inspirational for adding texture and pattern during the Autumn season.
Five: Think Simple Flowers and Dried Florals for Autumn
For the season, I really love to embrace the stage of life the flowers and greenery are at in the Fall. The leaves start to change color and the petals begin to stand still, drying slowly, preserving their beauty. Fresh baby’s breath and seeded eucalyptus are among my favorites to fill my vases with. They require very little maintenance and they dry in the loveliest way. I’ve always been a fan of dried florals, so I like to include them in a vase or two for their richness in color and textural appeal.
Have you incorporated any of these tips into your home already and which ones are you excited to use in your home? Thank you for hanging out with me awhile and have a wonderful rest of your week!
