I can hardly believe that Fall will soon be here in a few short weeks. For me, the excitement of the season begins in October, when my weekends are filled with attending Fall Festivals throughout Houston. I love meeting all the talented artisans and seeing their handmade creations. It reminds me of the times when I participated in church festivals when the kids were little, showcasing my handmade party decor and crocheted scarves. I had the best time! So, you can imagine how much I love and appreciate these events every year.
I’m sure you’ve also taken notice that Target and many other home decor stores have already filled their aisles with fragrant candles & colorful foliage, the cutest mini pumpkins, and endless decor from ceiling to floor. Seeing these displays can easily take you away to the joys of the upcoming season. This is why it makes me excited to share with you: 5 ways to decorate your home for the Fall Season, creating a home that feels airy and bright, cozy and fresh, with hints of gold and rich browns. Doesn’t that sound amazing?!
Create a Feeling, Rather than a “Look” in your Home
A personal philosophy of mine that I’ve practiced for years is: with every season, style your home in a way that expresses the wonderful ways you feel about the season. Fall reminds me of a time of winter preparations, harvesting fruits & vegetables before the start of Winter, and taking time to admire the longer sunsets. Suddenly, the natural elements around us become rich in color and we start to admire them in the spent blooms in the garden and in the fallen leaves. As you shop for your home, search for items with the colors and materials that make you excited about the season.
Bring in Texture & Pattern
I very much enjoy incorporating texture and pattern in my design plans, especially when it comes to the Fall season. I particularly lean more neutral during these months, which is why I add texture and pattern to liven up the look in my home. You can best find this in pillows, baskets, throw blankets, and in vases & decorative accents.
Fill your Space with Beautiful Candles
It’s no surprise that there’s a huge variety of scents that come out during the Fall and Winter seasons. Smell is often always connected to our fondest memories. So, choose the scents that remind you of the best times of the Autumn season, whether it’s in the smell of the trees when you go camping or in a favorite dessert. I like purchasing warm floral scents in a beautiful container, that are soy-based. As a step further, I highlight them up in a pretty glass cloche, which is this one from CB2, here. You can also display them in a gold rim ceramic bowl, for a different look that’s layered with sophistication.
Add Marble Accents
A decorative element that instantly upgrades your space, are marble accents here and there. It’s a natural stone with gorgeous detail and compliments any style. There’s definite weight to each piece, which makes it feel like you spent a fortune on it. I purchased these marble bookends from Target because I love the neutral tones, along with the curved shape that compliments the round and straight lines I have in my other decor. These bookends look beautiful when displayed with books or as a decorative object together, which is how I styled them in my entryway.
Infuse a Mix of Fresh and Dried Floral Ingredients
Summer is prime for Hydrangea’s and I make every effort to fill the home with these lush blooms that bring freshness and class to the space. Search for Limelight and Endless Summer hydrangeas from your garden, which are perfect for drying. Simply add them to a clean vase of fresh water with flower food and let them dry naturally. They’ll be a beautiful centerpiece for Fall and for seasons to come. For fresh florals, I love adding blooms with interest, such as stunning dahlia’s with a beautiful gold center and peach toned florals, as my version of orange for the season.
Floral Pillow / Tufted Cream Pillow
White Planter / Marble Bookends / Candle
Gold Lamp Shade / Woven Handbag / Throw Blanket
These are some of my top picks from Target that I think would be absolutely perfect for the Fall season. I added a few extras from other stores to keep the look collected, but these are all items that will seamlessly transition into the next season. I even picked up much of what’s on this list for my living room. Now, I just need a cute pumpkin mug for my daily coffee. Happy shopping everyone!
